Nigeria-eligible forward Edna Imade was the hero on Sunday as Real Sociedad pulled off one of the biggest shocks of the Spanish Women’s topflight season, defeating league leaders Barcelona 1-0.

Imade netted the decisive goal in the 37th minute from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball by a Barcelona defender inside the box. The in-form striker kept her composure to send the goalkeeper the wrong way, notching her seventh goal of the season in as many matches.

Her tireless display and lethal finishing once again underlined her growing reputation in Spain, where she continues to be one of the standout performers this term.

The 25-year-old, who is also eligible to represent Spain, remains on the radar of Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, who has expressed optimism that Imade will choose to play for Nigeria over the reigning world champions.

With her current form, Imade’s potential inclusion in Nigeria’s future international plans could provide a significant boost to the team’s attacking options.
