NEC commiserates with SWAN president over mother’s demise

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has commiserate with its President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, over the death of his mother, Mrs Agnes Isaiah.

One after the other, incumbent NEC members who expressed grief on the demise of SWAN President’s mother on Thursday evening, were united in consoling him via calls and messages.

Among them are SWAN Vice President North-central zone, Mallam Olayinka Owolewa, his Southwest, Northeast and Southeast counterparts Mr. Ayodeji Ogunsakin, Mr. Ahmed Kagana Amshi and Mr. Ikemefuna Asika.

The National Treasurer and Welfare Officer Mr. Amusan Olufemi Ayorinde and Mr. Augustine Ajayi, alongside National Ex-Officio members – Alhaji Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu, Mr. Usman Abbas Shehu, Mr. China Acheru and Mr. Biodun Ogundipe also sent out their consoling messages.

The outpouring of their condolence messages captured in a press statement issued by the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo on Friday said, “We jointly commiserate with our President over the passage of his dear mother who died on Thursday, moreso that her passage happened less than one year after her husband and father of the family returned to his maker.

“Yes, Mama lived a fulfilling and blessed life but losing such a dear one and most especially a mother is so painful.

“May God grant her soul eternal rest and console our President and his loved ones on this irreparable loss.

“We assure you of our continuous support especially at this mourning time and always.”

There have been deluge of condolence texts from stakeholders, mostly from the sports sector including the State Chapters of SWAN.

The burial arrangement of Mrs Agnes whose death occurred at the age of 78, will be made known by the family in due course.
