Rafael Nadal will not be playing in this year’s US Open, the Spanish clay court legend announced on Wednesday that he is not fit enough.
The 22-Grand Slam winner said he will be focusing on the Laver Cup instead.
The withdrawal of the 37-year-old Nadal comes as no surprise.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner has been struggling with his health for some time and has plummeted considerably in the world rankings.
“I want to make it known that I have decided not to participate in the US Open, a tournament that I have many memories of.
“I will miss those exciting and special evenings in New York, but I will not be able to give 100 percent”, he said
