Arne Slot is set to serve a two-match touchline ban after receiving a red card following Liverpool’s draw against Everton.
The incident occurred after the final whistle when Slot and assistant coach Spike Hulshoff confronted referee Michael Oliver to contest James Tarkowski’s last-minute equalizer.
Liverpool claimed there was a foul in the buildup to the goal, but Oliver allowed it to stand, with VAR backing his decision.
Slot was shown a red card after shaking Oliver’s hand, which led to questions about the reason for his dismissal.
The Premier League later stated that Slot’s red card was due to his use of “offensive, insulting, or abusive language.”
However, there has been confusion surrounding the situation, as the Premier League deleted the statement from their official website.
It appears the league may have acted prematurely, with Mirror Football reporting that the FA is still reviewing the referee’s report before making a final decision.
As a result of the dismissal, Slot was also prevented from conducting his post-match media duties on Wednesday.
First-team coach Jonny Heitinga could take charge for Liverpool’s upcoming match against struggling Wolves on Sunday and may remain in control for Wednesday’s trip to Aston Villa if assistant Hulshoff also receives a two-match ban.
In a separate incident, Liverpool’s Curtis Jones was sent off by Oliver for his involvement in a mass brawl after the match. Jones shoved Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure after the midfielder taunted Liverpool fans by celebrating in front of them.
