Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has opened up about his Nigerian roots, revealing the meaning behind his traditional name.

The 20-year-old became United’s first signing under manager Ruben Amorim in November 2024.

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Nigerian parents, Dorgu has remained connected to his heritage, even though he represents Denmark at international level.

Speaking to Manchester United’s official website, the young full-back explained the significance of his Igbo name, Chinazaekpere.

“Chinazaekpere means ‘God answers prayers.’ That’s the name my parents gave me when I was born,” Dorgu said.
