Manchester United’s struggles deepened on Sunday as they were knocked out of the FA Cup following a 2–1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

The loss came just days after Darren Fletcher was appointed interim manager, stepping in after the departure of Ruben Amorim earlier in the week.

United were hoping for a response under new leadership but instead suffered an early exit from the competition.

Brighton took the lead in the 12th minute when Gruda found the back of the net, silencing the home crowd.

The visitors maintained control for long periods and doubled their advantage in the 67th minute through former United striker Danny Welbeck.

United pushed forward in the closing stages and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Sesko pulled one back to give the Red Devils hope. However, the late rally proved insufficient as Brighton held on to secure victory.

The result means Manchester United have been eliminated in the third round of the FA Cup, compounding a difficult season for the club and increasing pressure on the interim management team as they look to stabilize performances going forward.
