Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says the team remains grounded following their dominant 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
First-half goals from Asisat Oshoala and Rinsola Babajide, followed by a second-half strike from Chinwendu Ihezuo, ensured Nigeria got off to a flying start in Casablanca.
Reacting after the match, Madugu said the team is not carried away by the result and is fully aware of areas needing improvement.
“We are not flattered by the scoreline. We had a clear plan, and while we executed it well, we’ve reviewed the match and identified areas we must work on. It’s still a work in progress. Like I said, it’s just the first game,” he stated.
“Opening matches are always tricky. There are nerves and other factors, so it’s rare to see a team at its peak from the start. The goal is to keep improving with every game and build momentum toward the final.”
With the win, Nigeria now sits at the top of Group B, ahead of Algeria who edged Botswana 1-0 in the other group fixture.
