Liverpool have officially secured their 20th top-flight title, confirming themselves as Premier League champions after a dominant 5-1 victory over Tottenham.

The triumph sees the Reds move level with long-time rivals Manchester United for the most league titles in English football history, with four matches still to play.

Despite falling behind early to a Dominic Solanke goal, Liverpool responded swiftly, with Luis Diaz equalising just four minutes later. Alexis Mac Allister then fired the Reds into the lead with a stunning strike in the 24th minute, before Cody Gakpo added a third as Liverpool completed a remarkable first-half turnaround.

Destiny Udogie’s own goal and a Mohamed Salah finish after the hour mark sealed a resounding win at Anfield. Salah’s goal, his 28th of the season, took his Premier League tally to 185 — surpassing Sergio Aguero to become the top-scoring foreign player in the competition’s history. Only Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, and Andy Cole now sit ahead of the Egyptian in the all-time scoring charts.

At 32, Salah has now been directly involved in 272 Premier League goals, surpassing Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, and achieving the feat in 335 fewer appearances.

Ahead of the match, hundreds of Liverpool fans gathered outside Anfield, creating a sea of red and setting off flares to welcome the team. The Reds needed just a point to clinch the title after Arsenal dropped points against Crystal Palace midweek — and they delivered in style.

The win means Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are now 17 points behind in second place, unable to close the gap. It marks Liverpool’s first league title since their 2019/20 triumph under Jurgen Klopp.

This latest success comes under the guidance of Arne Slot, who took over from Klopp last summer. In a remarkable debut campaign, Slot’s Liverpool have suffered only two defeats in 34 league matches on their way to a record-equalling title.

Liverpool now stand proudly alongside Manchester United at the summit of English football with 20 league championships apiece.
