Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe has been elected as the 10th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), making history as the first woman to hold the position.

She secured victory in the first round of voting at the 144th IOC Session in Costa Navarino, Greece.

Coventry triumphed over a field of contenders, including HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, David Lappartient, Johan Eliasch, Juan Antonio Samaranch, Lord Sebastian Coe, and Morinari Watanabe.

She will take over from Thomas Bach, the ninth IOC President, whose 12-year tenure concludes on June 23, 2025.

The IOC President is elected by its members through a secret ballot and serves an eight-year term.
