Newly acquired Joshua Zirkzee has had a dream debut in the Premier League netting the winner in Manchester United 1-0 victory against Fulham in the 87th minute on Friday.

The 23-year-old striker from Spijkenisseevening solitary goal was all Erik Ten Haag’s lads needed to win their first game of the 2024-25 English Premier League season.

Zirkzee was on the bench at Wembley last Saturday, where Manchester United, as FA Cup winners, lost 8-7 on penalties to national champions Manchester City in the battle for the Community Shield.

Manchester United and Fulham seemed to be heading for their first 0-0 in a mutual duel since 1924, but in the 87th minute Zirkzee broke the spell for the English record champions.

With his goal, Zirkzee followed in the footsteps of Ruud van Nistelrooy and Robin van Persie, who also scored against Fulham on their debut for United at Old Trafford.
