Ivory Coast has officially withdrawn from hosting the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, the Ivorian government informed the country’s football federation about the decision.
“By this letter, President Yacine Idriss Diallo, President of the FIF and COCAN U20, informs you that the Government has officially notified the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) of Côte d’Ivoire’s withdrawal as the host country of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations,” the statement read.
Following this directive, the FIF’s Executive Director relayed the information to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
“The President extends his deep gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the tournament and assures that all stakeholders will be informed of CAF’s response to the situation,” the document added.
With Ivory Coast stepping down, CAF must now seek an alternative host before the tournament kicks off.
