Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has opened up about his deep connection to Nigeria, describing how proud he is of his heritage and the influence it has had on his life and career.

The England international, who was born and raised in London, revealed that despite representing his country of birth at senior level, he has never forgotten where his family comes from. Saka’s parents are both Nigerians, and he credits their upbringing and values as an important part of the person he has become.

In an interview with the BBC, the 23-year-old winger, whose full name is Bukayo Moses Ayoyinka Temidayo Saka, spoke passionately about his cultural identity.

“I am very proud of it [my Nigerian roots]. Both my parents grew up in Nigeria, so many of their values have been instilled in me.”

Saka emphasized the significance of his background, noting that his family heritage has shaped his character, discipline, and the humility he is widely known for.

The Arsenal forward enjoyed a memorable visit to Nigeria in June 2023, where he received a warm reception from fans and was hosted by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the State House.

Although he chose to play for England at international level, Saka continues to maintain strong ties with Nigeria and remains a beloved figure among Nigerian football supporters.
