Nigeria international Taiwo Awoniyi has reaffirmed his belief in his quality at the highest level after ending his goal drought in Nottingham Forest’s 2–0 away victory over Brentford.

The Forest striker has endured a difficult campaign, struggling for consistent minutes due to injuries and a dip in form, which limited his involvement for much of the season.

However, Awoniyi made a strong statement on his return, coming off the bench to score Forest’s second goal and seal all three points.

Speaking after the match, the former Union Berlin forward insisted that his confidence has never wavered despite the challenges he has faced.

“I’ve always believed I’m a Premier League player, no matter what is going on around me. That’s my focus,” Awoniyi said.

“Unfortunately, with what I’ve been through over the last one-and-a-half years, I’ve not been playing a lot and haven’t been involved. The coach came in and brought me back, which is something I’m happy about.”

Awoniyi also admitted that his lack of regular football contributed to his struggles in front of goal but expressed relief at getting back on the scoresheet.

“Getting the goal is something I’m happy about. I’ve not been playing for a while so maybe that’s why the goals are not there,” he added.

The goal could prove pivotal for both player and club as Forest continue their push for consistency in the Premier League, with Awoniyi hoping the strike marks the start of a strong run in the second half of the season.
