Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has made it clear that he harbors no sense of rivalry with fellow Nigerian forwards Victor Osimhen and Victor Boniface, emphasizing that personal growth—not competition—is his primary motivation.

Speaking in an interview with Humble Boots, the Nottingham Forest star dismissed any idea of vying against his teammates for a spot in the national squad.

“I’ve never thought, ‘I want to be better than Osimhen’ or ‘I want to outshine Boniface,’” Awoniyi said. “My focus has always been on becoming the best version of myself.”

He further stressed the importance of self-improvement, both on and off the pitch. “Everyone’s journey is different. Whether I’m playing or not, what matters most is how I use that time to grow and prepare for the next opportunity.”

Awoniyi concluded by saying, “It’s never been about beating anyone else—just about being ready when the chance comes.”
