South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos, has acknowledged the quality of Nigeria’s Super Eagles players, stressing that most of them feature for top European clubs.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Tuesday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria, Broos admitted that Eric Chelle’s side remains a formidable opponent despite the absence of Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen.
Nigeria’s squad for the clash includes twelve players currently active in Europe’s top five leagues: Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, Chidozie Awaziem, Christantus Uche, Felix Agu, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Frank Onyeka.
“It is a big opportunity to win the game tomorrow, but again, we are playing against a very strong opponent,” Broos told reporters.
“It’s not because they’re six points behind us that you should think Nigeria is not a good team. When you look at their players, they all play abroad in big clubs, which shows the quality they have. But we are not afraid going into tomorrow’s game.”
