Nigeria has been officially confirmed among the nations that will compete in the men’s 3×3 basketball event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, marking the country’s first-ever appearance in the fast-growing format at the Games.

The confirmation was made on Tuesday by Commonwealth Sport, following the release of the list of qualified nations for the basketball competitions, which will take place at the Scottish Event Campus from July 24 to 29, 2026.

The development represents a significant milestone for Nigerian basketball, as the country did not feature when the 3×3 discipline made its Commonwealth Games debut at Birmingham 2022.

Nigeria will line up in the men’s competition alongside Australia, the Cayman Islands, Fiji, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Scotland and Singapore, with one additional European qualification slot still to be decided.

In the women’s category, the tournament will feature Australia, the Cayman Islands, Fiji, Jamaica, Kenya, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, Singapore, Tonga and Uganda, alongside a European nation yet to be confirmed.

Nigeria is among a group of debutants in the men’s competition, alongside Guyana and Malaysia, while Uganda will make its first appearance in the women’s event, highlighting the growing global reach and development of 3×3 basketball within the Commonwealth.
