Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has provided an update on the condition of Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen following his injury setback.
Osimhen sustained the injury during the second leg of the UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool FC.
The Turkish giants suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat on the night, crashing out of the competition with a 4-1 aggregate loss.
Speaking after the encounter, Buruk confirmed that the Super Eagles striker was unable to continue due to increasing discomfort.
“Osimhen is also in pain. It happened at the beginning of the game; we tried to keep him on the pitch, but his pain increased, so we had to substitute him at halftime,” Buruk told the club’s official website.
The Galatasaray boss also expressed frustration with the officiating, suggesting that his player was not adequately protected during the match.
“Looking at Osimhen’s position, we saw that Ibrahima Konaté was able to commit these fouls very easily, he could easily apply any kind of foul.
While we were expecting the best referee in the world, perhaps one of the worst referees officiated the game,” he added.
Further assessment is expected to determine the extent of Osimhen’s injury and how long he could be sidelined.
