Fulham manager Marco Silva has voiced his displeasure over the imminent absence of Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey, and Samuel Chukwueze, who are set to join the Nigerian national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three players were officially included in Nigeria’s squad released on Thursday by Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. Their participation in the tournament means they could be away from club duties for up to a month, should Nigeria progress to the final.

The biennial AFCON will take place from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

Iwobi, Bassey, and Chukwueze have been integral to Fulham’s strong performances this season, and Silva admits their absence will be deeply felt.

“We are talking about three starting XI players. We know Alex is a key player in any position he plays. The importance of Calvin, and what Chukwueze has been doing in recent games,” Silva said. “You have to find solutions. If you know any other way to handle it [AFCON], let me know.”

Despite the setback, Fulham are expected to rely on squad depth and possible tactical adjustments as they navigate a critical period of the Premier League campaign without the influential trio.
