Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega is optimistic about Nigeria’s chances of claiming a record-extending tenth Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco.
Nigeria endured a disappointing outing in the previous edition, finishing fourth and relinquishing their long-held crown to South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

Under the guidance of head coach Justine Madugu, the Super Falcons are intensifying preparations for the 2025 WAFCON.
Their build-up includes a high-profile friendly against Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses on Tuesday at the newly refurbished MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta.
Speaking in a video shared on the team’s official X account, Ordega expressed strong belief in the team’s potential.
“We’re going to Morocco to win. Nobody enters a competition planning to lose. Every team is aiming for the title, and we are no different,” she stated.
Currently plying her trade with Al-Shabab in Saudi Arabia, Ordega also highlighted the determination within the squad—particularly among the younger players.
“Some of the new girls haven’t experienced what it feels like to win a major title. That hunger is driving them,” she added. “We lost the last title to South Africa, but this time, we’re going back for it. It’s important that the new players get to taste victory too.”
Nigeria will compete in Group B at WAFCON 2024 alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. All group matches are scheduled to take place at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
