It was a historic night for Chelsea as the Premier League side cruised to a commanding victory over Paris Saint-Germain to be crowned champions of the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
The Blues stamped their authority from the first whistle, taking the game to the tournament favourites. After an early scare was averted by a stunning save from goalkeeper Robert Sánchez, Cole Palmer broke the deadlock midway through the first half.
Palmer quickly added a second, before new signing João Pedro made it 3-0 just before the break, leaving the French champions stunned.
PSG came out with renewed intent in the second half, but Chelsea’s solid defence and disciplined display ensured there was no way back for the Ligue 1 giants. The dominant performance sealed Chelsea’s place in the history books as the first winners of the revamped tournament.
