FIFA has handed 12-month bans to seven Malaysia national team players and fined the country’s football association 350,000 Swiss francs ($440,000) for using forged documents during an Asian Cup qualifier.

According to a statement on Friday, the world football governing body’s disciplinary committee sanctioned the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) after it falsified paperwork to field the players in a 4-0 win over Vietnam in June.

The case came to light following a complaint challenging the eligibility of several players who featured in the match.

The suspended players are Gabriel Felipe Arrocha, Facundo Tomas Garces, Rodrigo Julian Holgado, Imanol Javier Machuca, Joao Vitor Brandao Figueiredo, Jon Irazabal Iraurgui, and Hector Alejandro Hevel Serrano. Each was also fined 2,000 Swiss francs and barred from all football-related activities for one year.
