The Federal Government of Nigeria has fulfilled its pledge to Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.
Rena Wakama’s side defeated Mali 78–64 in the final of the tournament held last August to successfully defend their continental title.
In recognition of the achievement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a cash reward of the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each player, while the head coach and members of the technical crew received the equivalent of $50,000 each.
The President also conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on the players and technical crew, alongside the allocation of a residential flat for each member of the team.
Documents for the houses and national honours were officially presented to the players and technical staff in Lyon, France on Monday by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, and the Director General, Bukola Olopade.
D’Tigress are currently in Lyon competing at the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament.
