Liverpool remained on top of the English Premier League table after a 2-1 win over Chelsea while Manchester City came from a goal down to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1.
In a scintillating match at Anfield, Chelsea started strongly but Cole Palmer missed a big chance to open the scoring. Moments later, Liverpool shouted for a penalty after Mohamed Salah went down but the ball did not go to the spot. Slot was shown a yellow card for protesting.
In the 28th minute, Liverpool were awarded a penalty after a foul by Levi Colwill on Curtis Jones. Salah then scored from 11 yards. A few minutes later, Cody Gakpo tapped in from close range, but his goal was disallowed for offside.
Chelsea then went in search of an equaliser, but just before half-time Liverpool looked set to be awarded another penalty. Curtis Jones was brought down by Robert Sánchez, but VAR ruled that the Chelsea goalkeeper played the ball first.
Nicolas Jackson equalised shortly after the break, the Senegalese striker’s goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR allowed the goal.
Jones scored from close range after a brilliant assist from Salah, the Reds did not relinquish the lead after that, although Christopher Nkunku came close to equalizing in extra time.
The win keeps Liverpool at the top of the table, with the Reds one point ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who won 1-2 at Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the day.
