Arsenal have opened up a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table following a commanding 4-1 victory over rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Sunday.
The Gunners entered the clash fully aware that both title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool had dropped points earlier in the day. City suffered a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United, while Liverpool were stunned 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield—results that presented Arsenal with a golden opportunity to extend their advantage.
Mikel Arteta’s men seized control from the opening whistle, playing with high intensity and clinical precision. Belgian star Leandro Trossard broke the deadlock with a composed finish after sustained pressure from the hosts.
Just before halftime, Eberechi Eze doubled the lead with a brilliant strike, sending the Emirates Stadium into wild celebration.
Eze wasted no time after the restart, scoring again to put Arsenal firmly in command and later completing a superb hat-trick that sealed the victory and maximum points for the league leaders.
Tottenham pulled one back late in the game, but it proved too little, too late as Arsenal maintained their authority throughout the encounter.
The win sees Arsenal move to 29 points, now six points clear of second-placed Chelsea, who they face next in a highly anticipated Premier League fixture.
With momentum on their side and rivals faltering, the Gunners continue to strengthen their credentials as serious title contenders this season.
