Elena Rybakina produced a stunning performance to win the Australian Open women’s singles title after defeating world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a thrilling final.
The Kazakhstan star showed remarkable composure and power on the biggest stage, edging a tightly contested match that lived up to its billing as a clash of two of the most dominant players in women’s tennis.
Rybakina took the opening set 6-4 with aggressive baseline play and clinical serving, before Sabalenka responded in the second set, raising her intensity to level the match with a 6-4 victory.
In a tense deciding set, Rybakina held her nerve, breaking serve at a crucial moment to seal a 6-4 win and claim her maiden Australian Open crown.
The victory also marked a historic achievement, as Rybakina became the first woman to win the Australian Open singles title with victories over three top-six players in one tournament since Maria Sharapova in 2008 defeating Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals, Jessica Pegula in the semifinals, and Aryna Sabalenka in the final.
Her triumph in Melbourne further cements her status as one of the leading forces in women’s tennis and signals a new era of dominance on the Grand Slam stage.
