Ekong opens up on his retirement from the national team

Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong has opened up on his retirement from the national team.

The hardworking defender was one of the outstanding players in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

He was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player of the tournament and some followers of the suggests he might bow out of the team

While speaking on Sunday from the team camp in Uyo, Ekong said he can still appear in the next African Cup of Nations in Morocco.

“I am still 31, the next AFCON is just 12months away, and there’s still the 2026 World Cup tournament to look forward to,” Ekong said.

“After that, we will see! It’s not my decision, as long as I am still invited by the coaches, I still have much more to give.”
