Nigeria’s women’s national basketball team coach, Rena Wakama, has been named the head coach of Hive BC ahead of the 2025–26 Unrivaled Basketball League season.
The Unrivaled League an eight-team women’s basketball competition in the United States co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier in 2023 made its debut in January 2025 with six teams.
The league confirmed its lineup of head coaches for the new season on Thursday via its official website, announcing Wakama’s appointment among eight head coaches who will lead their respective clubs.
Wakama is set to guide one of the league’s two expansion teams, as Unrivaled prepares to kick off its second campaign in January 2026.
“Rena Wakama will lead Hive BC in the team’s Unrivaled debut, following her first season as an assistant coach with the Chicago Sky,” the statement read.
