Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers has passionately defended his record at Rangers, expressing pride in being listed among the club’s most prolific strikers of recent times.
With his dramatic stoppage-time winner in Saturday’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Dundee, Dessers took his tally to 45 goals in 100 appearances. Only Kris Boyd, Alfredo Morelos, and Shota Arveladze had scored more before reaching that milestone.
Acknowledging his critics—after registering 11 attempts on goal before finally scoring at the weekend—Dessers admits it is an honor to be mentioned alongside such influential figures.
“When you put it like that, it makes me very proud,” he said. “I’ve had tough times at this club, especially when I first arrived, but being in the company of these names means I must be doing something right.”
“The people within the club recognize that. They see the hard work I put in—whether in the gym, on the pitch, or during training—and this is the reward. These are legendary names in the club’s history.”
“It’s been two challenging years for everyone—players, staff, and fans—with plenty of ups and downs. We’ve had great moments in Europe and lifted a League Cup, but we missed out on the biggest prize last season.”
