Kevin De Bruyne lashed out at his teammates in Belgium after the 2-0 defeat against France on Monday.
Belgium were no match for France in Lyon, who took the lead 1-0 after half an hour of play with a goal from Randal Kolo Muani. Fifteen minutes after the break, Ousmane Dembélé made it 2-0.
The captain then criticized his teammates in an interview with the Belgian broadcaster VTM . “France was better. We have six players at the back and there is no connection. Not even in the second half, when we are behind. There are people who do not do their job and then you get into trouble. Period.”
“I can’t say here what needs to be improved,” De Bruyne continued. “I told the players at half-time what needed to be said. I can’t repeat that in the media. It has to be improved in every way.”
“You have to give at least everything if you can’t handle the top and even that some players didn’t do. Then it’s over. I can accept that we are not as good as the 2018 team, but there are other things that are unacceptable.”
The 33-year-old De Bruyne has played 107 international matches for Belgium since 2010, scoring thirty goals.
