The Connecticut Sun has officially signed Nigerian basketball standout Amy Okonkwo, adding international talent and depth to their roster.

Okonkwo, a key player for Nigeria’s D’Tigress, brings years of experience from the international basketball scene, having competed in the French Ligue Féminine de Basketball since 2021. She currently plays for Tango Bourges Basket, where she averages 12.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

Standing at 6-foot-2, the versatile forward hails from Fontana, California. She had a successful collegiate career, first at the University of Southern California and later at Texas Christian University, where she earned Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year honors in 2018.

On the international stage, Okonkwo has represented Nigeria at two Olympic Games — Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 — solidifying her reputation as a key contributor to the national team’s success.

The Sun will open their 2025 WNBA regular season at home on May 18, when they face the Washington Mystics at Mohegan Sun Arena.
