Nigerian-born midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has officially decided to represent the Austria national football team at international level, ending speculation over his national team future.

The talented youngster, who was born in Vienna to Nigerian parents, is now eligible to feature for Austria’s senior national team and could make his debut as early as the upcoming international window in March.

Chukwuemeka previously represented the England national under-20 football team and other youth levels after progressing through the ranks from the U17 category.

Despite his involvement with England’s youth setup, he had remained eligible to switch allegiance due to his place of birth.

The decision means the midfielder has opted against representing the Nigeria national football team, who had also been monitoring his international future.

According to reports, Chukwuemeka’s ambition with Austria includes helping the team qualify for and compete at the next edition of the FIFA World Cup.

Austria’s coaching staff are said to be keen on integrating the technically gifted midfielder into the squad, with a potential debut expected during the March international fixtures.
