English Premier League side Chelsea have announced the dismissal of their head coach, Enzo Maresca.
The club confirmed the decision on Thursday, bringing an end to Maresca’s tenure at Stamford Bridge.
Despite the sack, Chelsea acknowledged the Italian’s achievements during his time in charge, which included guiding the team to triumph in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.
In a statement, the club noted that those successes will remain a significant part of Chelsea’s recent history, while also expressing appreciation for Maresca’s contributions.
Chelsea explained that the decision was taken with the season still finely poised, as the club continues to compete across four different competitions, including the push for qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League.
According to the club, both parties agreed that a managerial change at this stage would give the team the best possible chance of getting their campaign back on track.
