Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has reaffirmed his confidence in Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho following his first goal for the club.

Iheanacho found the net as Boro secured a 2-1 victory over Oxford United on Saturday, marking his first goal of the season.

Carrick expressed his belief in the Super Eagles striker, emphasizing that he never doubted his ability and expects more goals from him.

“He (Iheanacho) is happy. We’re trying to keep the smile off Neto’s face as much as anything! He was delighted too,” Carrick told the club’s official website.

“But Kel knows it. He has played at a high level, and goals naturally boost confidence.

“I wasn’t concerned—I knew he would score. Hopefully, this is just the beginning, and I’m sure he has plenty more to come. It was a massive goal for us.”
