Fulham FC defender Calvin Bassey has revealed that his dream has always been to play for Nigeria, even before receiving his first call-up.

The left-footed defender earned his debut for the Super Eagles in 2021 under former coach Gernot Rohr. Since then, he has established himself as one of the team’s most dependable players.

Speaking to NBC Sports, Bassey shared his deep connection to the Nigerian national team:

“I think one of my teammates at the time, Kenneth Omeruo, played in that game. Just watching it, I knew I wanted to be in that position.”

“Nigeria is a massive footballing nation, and representing them comes with great pride. I worked hard for the opportunity, and when it came, there was no hesitation—I knew I wanted to play for Nigeria.”

So far, Bassey has earned 29 caps for the Super Eagles.
