The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that all participating nations in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations must submit a final squad list consisting of 23 players.

However, CAF has also provided an option for teams wishing to expand their squad size to 27 players, but with an important condition: the additional four players will not be covered by CAF.

Any team choosing to bring extra players will be required to shoulder full financial responsibility for their travel, accommodation, and logistics.

The regulation is intended to maintain fairness and consistency across the tournament, while also giving flexibility for teams dealing with injuries or tactical depth concerns.

National teams now face the strategic decision of sticking with the standard squad size or investing in additional reinforcements.

The development is expected to spark debate among coaches and federations as they finalize their plans for the continent’s biggest football event.
