Boavista FC, the Portuguese club of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyeamaechi is facing the possibility of been liquidated.
Gérard Lopez who is majority shareholder of the club since 2020, has expressed its economic distress in a press release and says it is on the verge of compulsory liquidation.
In a statement released, the Boavista club, currently 14th in the Portuguese Championship, reported the catastrophic economic situation in which it believes it finds itself.
” The Commercial Court of Vila Nova de Gaia has ordered a Special Revitalization Process (PER), which now follows legal procedures and will be developed over the coming months, specifies the black and white checkered club,” the statement said.
“The truth is that, without the adoption of rigorous and exceptional measures, the only alternative will be to file for insolvency, which would lead to the inevitable liquidation of the club, thus frustrating the legitimate expectations of everyone and the recovery of credits by creditors.”
Boavista has been surrounded by problems: unpaid salaries and bonuses, delayed or unpaid debts, recruitment bans.
