Benin football legend Razak Omotoyossi has died at the age of 38 in his homeland, leaving the African football family in mourning.

Born in Nigeria but proudly donning Benin’s colors, Omotoyossi rose to become one of the country’s most celebrated players, scoring 21 goals in 55 international appearances. He remains among Benin’s all-time leading scorers.

His defining moment came in the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, when he struck all four goals in Benin’s stunning 4-1 victory over rivals Togo—a performance that saw him finish as joint-top scorer of the campaign alongside Samuel Eto’o.

At club level, Omotoyossi shone in Sweden with Helsingborgs IF, where he played in the UEFA Champions League, before joining FC Metz in France. His career also spanned stints in South Africa, Libya, Egypt, Syria, and Moldova, earning admiration for his relentless energy and clinical finishing.
