Rangers FC defender Leon Balogun is targeting a return to Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles.
The 36-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers under former coach Gernot Rohr, but a series of injuries disrupted his international career.
However, the former Mainz 05 defender is now fully fit and aiming for a place in the squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“It’s not that I’ve refused invitations,” Balogun said in an interview with Brila FM.
“Unfortunately, just before the World Cup break, I picked up an injury that was meant to keep me out for a few weeks, but things didn’t go as planned.”
He added, “I couldn’t come because I wasn’t fit, and after recovering, I suffered a relapse. Since then, I haven’t had any long-term injuries. I’ve always been available and have never said that I retired from international football. The right people know that I am still very much willing and eager to represent the national team.”
