Carlos Alcaraz produced a historic performance at the Australian Open, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final to claim his first title in Melbourne and further cement his place among tennis’ elite.
The 22-year-old Spaniard came from a set down to beat the Serbian legend 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in a high-quality final at Rod Laver Arena, ending Djokovic’s dominance in Melbourne in emphatic fashion.
With the victory, Alcaraz became the youngest man in history to complete the Career Grand Slam, adding the Australian Open to his previous titles at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open.
He also made history as the first player ever to defeat Novak Djokovic in an Australian Open final, a feat no one had previously achieved.
The win marks Alcaraz’s seventh Grand Slam title and his first Australian Open crown, underlining his status as the new dominant force in men’s tennis.
He also maintained his perfect start to the year, remaining undefeated in 2026.
Djokovic, who had been unbeaten in Australian Open finals before this match, took the first set convincingly, but Alcaraz responded with aggression, intensity and tactical discipline, gradually wresting control of the contest before sealing victory in four sets.
At just 22 years old, Alcaraz has now written his name into tennis history books, completing the Career Grand Slam and delivering one of the most significant wins of the modern era in Melbourne.
