The American basketball team, Chicago Sky, confirmed on Tuesday afternoon the signing of Nigeria’s D’Tigress head coach, Rena Wakama, as part of its technical crew.
Wakama gained widespread recognition after leading Nigeria to the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympic Games—an unprecedented achievement for any African basketball team, male or female.
She also played a crucial role in securing D’Tigress’ fourth consecutive African championship title.
“Chicago Sky announced today that Rena Wakama will join Head Coach Tyler Marsh’s staff as an assistant coach,” the club stated.
Chicago Sky will begin their 2025 regular season on Saturday, May 17, against Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, with Wakama expected to be on the bench.
