Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that pre-match comments from the Zambian camp served as strong motivation for Nigeria’s emphatic 5-0 victory in the quarter-final clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking after the game, Ajibade said the team used the remarks as fuel to silence their critics and prove a point.

“There was a lot of talk from the Zambia camp and we heard all of it,” she said. “It really pushed us and gave us extra motivation going into this match.”

Despite boasting one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacking duos Barbara Banda and Racheal Kundananji  who scored all six of Zambia’s group stage goals (three each), the Copper Queens were completely dismantled by a dominant Nigerian side.

The 5-0 win by the Super Falcons is the biggest margin of victory recorded so far at this year’s WAFCON.
