Former Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa has officially announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a distinguished career with the Nigerian national team.

The former CSKA Moscow attacker made his Super Eagles debut in 2010 under then head coach Lars Lagerbäck and went on to become a key figure in the national setup for over a decade. Renowned for his pace, leadership, and big-game impact, Musa served Nigeria at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups.

The highlight of his international career came in 2013, when he was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations under the late coach Stephen Keshi. Musa also etched his name into Nigerian football history as the country’s highest goalscorer at the FIFA World Cup.

Musa announced his decision on Wednesday afternoon via his official social media platforms, reflecting on his long journey in the national colours.

“I wore this badge with pride for 15 years. From a 17-year-old boy answering every call to becoming the most capped Super Eagle with 111 appearances,” Musa wrote.
“AFCON champion. Nigeria’s highest World Cup goalscorer. Captain. Servant. Believer.
I gave everything. Thank you Nigeria… my heart will always beat green.”

Across his international career, Ahmed Musa earned 111 caps for Nigeria and scored 16 goals, finishing as the most capped player in Super Eagles history.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Nigerian football, with tributes already pouring in for one of the nation’s most dedicated servants on the international stage.
