Nigeria’s D’Tigers head coach, Muhammad Abdulrahman, has outlined the reasons behind his side’s quarter-final defeat to Senegal at the ongoing 2025 Afrobasket Championship in Angola.

The 2015 champions bowed out of the tournament after a 91-75 loss to their West African rivals and continental heavyweights, Senegal.

D’Tigers had earlier impressed in the group stage, topping Group B with six points after recording wins over Madagascar, Tunisia, and Cameroon.

Despite the disappointment, Abdulrahman expressed pride in his players’ efforts and progress.

“On a night we were supposed to bring our A-game, we fell short. I won’t take any credit away from Senegal; they deserved the win. But I’m proud of how we played. We have built an identity, and we’ll keep growing from here,” the former Gombe Bulls coach said.

With their Afrobasket journey over, Nigeria will now turn attention to preparations for the upcoming FIBA World Cup qualifiers.
