Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali could miss the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, dealing a potential blow to the Super Eagles’ preparations.
The Chippa United shot-stopper is currently battling ankle and hand injuries, which he reportedly aggravated during the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs last month. Since returning from the mini-tournament, the 29-year-old has not featured for his South African club.
Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi expressed doubts over the goalkeeper’s fitness for the tournament.
“I don’t think he will make it, but when I was talking to him, he was confident that he will recover very soon,” Vilakazi told SuperSport.
Nwabali was a standout performer for Nigeria at the 2023 AFCON finals in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a key role in the Super Eagles’ impressive campaign.
His injury situation now casts uncertainty over Nigeria’s goalkeeping options ahead of the continental showpiece in Morocco.
