The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has handed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, a clear mandate to guide the national team to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau, disclosed this while speaking on Eagles FM Radio, stating that despite the setback of failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the federation remains confident in the Super Eagles’ ability to compete at the highest level on the continent.

According to Gusau, reaching the AFCON final is the minimum expectation set for Chelle by the football governing body.

“The mandate the NFF has given Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, is for him to reach the final of the AFCON,” Gusau said.

Expressing optimism about the team’s prospects, the NFF boss added, “We are going to reach the final in Morocco, by the grace of God.”

Nigeria have recent pedigree at the Africa Cup of Nations, having reached the final of the last edition held in Côte d’Ivoire, where the Super Eagles narrowly lost 2-1 to the host nation.

With expectations now clearly defined, attention will be on Chelle and his squad as they prepare for the 2025 tournament, with the aim of going one step further than their previous outing.
