Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, Wilfred Ndidi, will miss the semi-final encounter against host nation Morocco at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations due to suspension.

The Besiktas midfielder picked up his second yellow card of the tournament during Nigeria’s quarter-final victory on Saturday, ruling him out of the crucial last-four tie. Ndidi was booked for time-wasting late in the encounter, a caution that proved costly for the Super Eagles.

Ndidi had earlier been shown a yellow card in Nigeria’s round of 16 match against Mozambique, meaning the accumulation of bookings automatically triggers a one-match suspension under CAF regulations.

The absence of the experienced midfielder will be a significant blow to head coach Éric Chelle, with Ndidi playing a key leadership role in Nigeria’s midfield throughout the tournament.

Nigeria are set to face Morocco in the semi-finals as they continue their quest for a fourth continental title, but will now have to do so without their influential captain anchoring the midfield.
