Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has voiced concern ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, admitting he could face a major selection challenge when key players depart for the tournament in December.
The Portuguese tactician is particularly worried about the possible absence of Ivorian winger Amad and Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo, whose impressive partnership on the right flank has been crucial for the Red Devils this season.
“We will have time to suffer,” Amorim said with a wry smile. “We are going to struggle a little bit, but we already knew this would happen. It’s also an opportunity for other players to step up.
“When I watch training, there are players who deserve to play. It’s hard to make changes when the team is performing well, but those chances will come. The players understand the way we want to play, and that won’t change even if the characteristics of the team do”, he told Manchester United media
The 2025 AFCON will begin on December 21, with players expected to link up with their national teams earlier in the month. The tournament’s final is set for January 18, meaning several European clubs including Manchester United and Liverpool, who could lose Mohamed Salah may be without key stars for up to a month.
