Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has addressed the reaction of Victor Osimhen following his substitution during Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday.
Osimhen, who led the attack for Nigeria in the Group A opener of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, was withdrawn in the 86th minute for a defensive adjustment as the Super Eagles sought to protect their slim lead.
The decision appeared to visibly frustrate the Galatasaray striker, sparking debate among fans and journalists after the match.
The issue was raised during Chelle’s post-match press conference, where the Malian tactician confirmed he had already discussed the situation privately with the former Napoli forward.
“We talked and it will stay between him and me,” Chelle said.
Pressed further for clarification, the Super Eagles coach declined to go into details, adding, “If you want more information, you’ve to tell Osimhen to ask me.”
Despite the late drama, Nigeria held on to secure all three points in their AFCON 2025 opener, with attention now shifting to their next group fixture as Chelle looks to build momentum in the tournament.
