Ademola Lookman made history on Saturday after scoring in Atletico Madrid’s 4-2 victory over Espanyol in the 2025-26 La Liga game.

The Nigerian forward was among the goal scorers as Diego Simeone’s men secured an impressive home win, with Alexander Sørloth netting a brace while Giuliano Simeone and Lookman also found the back of the net.

With his strike against Espanyol, Lookman has now scored four goals in his first six appearances across all competitions for Atletico Madrid. In doing so, he equalled the club’s best start since the 2013/14 season  a record previously set by Luis Suárez during the 2020/21 campaign.

Lookman joined Atletico Madrid from Serie A outfit Atalanta during the January transfer window and has quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.

The Nigerian international will be aiming to maintain his fine form when Atletico Madrid host Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second-leg playoff on Tuesday.
