Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirović has delivered encouraging news on the recovery of Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi, confirming that the centre-back is nearing a return to action.
Ajayi, who arrived at the MKM Stadium on a free transfer this summer after leaving West Bromwich Albion, suffered a hamstring injury shortly after an impressive debut in the Tigers’ Championship opener against Coventry City, where his solid display helped secure a goalless draw.
The setback sidelined him for three straight league fixtures and kept him out of Nigeria’s squad for this month’s World Cup qualifying clashes with Rwanda and South Africa.
Hull, who kept a clean sheet with Ajayi on his debut, have since struggled defensively, conceding nine goals in his absence an average of three per game. His imminent comeback is expected to provide much-needed stability at the back.
